Description
This Fuel Tank Safety Course looks at what we mean when we talk about safety relating to fuel tank’s – how we all interact and have an input into this when working specifically with fuel tanks, fuel systems and on or near fuel tanks.
We look at the history, the lessons learned and the different points that we all need to be aware of when considering Fuel Tank Safety, covering topics such as CDCCL (Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations) and SFAR 88.
Target audience
Personnel of the Part-145 approved maintenance organization required to plan, perform, supervise, inspect and certify the maintenance of aircraft and fuel system components.
Aims
An appreciation of Fuel tank safety considering all aspects including a focus on:
- Background & concept showing examples of FTS accidents or incidents.
- Description of concept of fuel tank safety and CDCCL.
- Awareness of hazards when working on the fuel system including Flammability Reduction Systems.
- Examples of documentation & TC holders repair data.
- Examples of FTS defects.
- Examples of maintenance instructions for inspection.
- Recording maintenance actions, recording measures and results of inspections.

Course is taught to achieve regulations as specified in EASA ED Decision 2009/007/R, EASA Appendix IV to AMC 145.A.30(e) and 145.B.10(3) and FAA AC 120-97A SFAR 88.

Duration
Suggested duration for completion is 4 hours.
Interval for continuation
There is a requirement to have interval continuation training for this course every 24 months – Phase 2 only. Once Phase 1 and 2 are initially completed. There is no requirement to have continuation training for Phase 1
